NESTA: Starter for Six
Starter for 6 is a new enterprise-development project, run by NESTA in Scotland. The programme provides business training, support and the opportunity to be considered for grant awards of up to £10,000 to innovative pre-start/early-stage businesses working in the science, technology and/or creative industries.
Now in the second year, examples of the 62 businesses supported include Ambaba’s re-usable nappies; Scott Garcia Design's contemporary furniture and Ewgeco, an energy-saving home monitoring device.
Training
Starter for 6 draws on key elements and learning from previous programmes that we've run in Scotland. It will provide you with training and support to help you set up or further develop your fledgling, innovative business. On completion of the training you'll have the opportunity to pitch for up to £10,000 of grant funding.
The 4 days of training (one day per month) will take place in cities across Scotland, including Aberdeen from February until May 2008. Participants will be given £250 subsidy payment to assist with attending the training.

§ innovative business ideas, including products and services, or innovative ways of bringing these to market;
§ ideas that come from any of the faculties of science, technology or the arts/creative industries.
