Aberdeen-Jazz-Festival-07

The Fourth annual Aberdeen Jazz Festival is set to take place from 7th – 11th of March. The festival has grown considerably over its four year history into a significant event for the Scottish Jazz scene, and with this has fast become one of Aberdeen’s major festivals.

The festival is unique in its approach to cater for Jazz fans of all styles, as it is held within various venues of different scales throughout the city, and as a result, creating a different environment and atmosphere, ensuring there is something here for everyone. Venues to be used include the Music Hall, The Lemon Tree, and the Aberdeen Exhibition Centre.

The festival can also boast a wealth of important names in the Jazz scene, from local talent to international players. Acts already confirmed for the festival include acclaimed guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor, who is set to collaborate with Jazz singer Alison Burns, New York’s pre-eminent vibraphonist Joe Locke, the first lady of Swedish Jazz Viktoria Tolstoy, and the effervescent BBC Big Band with velvet-voiced Elaine Delmar. There are also some leading lights of the contemporary London Jazz scene, including Gwilym Simcock, Polar Bear, and the Neil Cowley Trio, who aim to bring a real cutting edge to the festival.

As well as this there will also be some South American rhythms, courtesy of Venezuelan pianist Leo Blanco and a nice cool blast of Acid Jazz from Chicago’s own Orange Alert.

Add to the mix some home grown talent, by way of leading Scottish trumpeter Colin Steele and the world famous Tommy Smith, and the fourth Annual Jazz Festival is set to have something for all fans of Jazz and great music alike, making this years something very special indeed.
